Hope that helps, Larry 00 929 Many thanks.  And the uncorked Staintunes would be sorely missed (not to mention the $1000 they cost).  One other question about nuovo liter-4's, to which I've never ridden: can you ride it full throttle in first and surpress power wheelies without sitting on the bars?  I'm not much for wheelies; the powerband of my VTR is such that it tries to power loop as it approaches peak torque in first (when partially/fully screwed on).  Even from 2000 it pogo sticks for a bit and then pops at 6000, -smoothly but with no intent to stop.  I would prefer a bike that I could effortless squirt full throttle through first without the slam dance.  But not a 600.... Because of the upright seating position of your VTR, with a rapid increase in low end torque, your bike is more prone than most to attempt unintentional wheelies.  I couldn't stop it from doing at least small wheelies departing stop lights, when I tried it, and that was at about 3/4 throttle, and I weigh 200 lbs.  After your bike, anything with a more committed reach to the bars should keep the front end on the ground. With stock gearing on the 929, with both hands on the bars, there are no wheelies for me at 3/4 throttle.  I generally do not peg the throttle in first, and I short shift the rpm range as a habit, so I'm not the best person to ask.  (Moike?) With my riding _style_ I do not get unexpected wheelies, unless I am on a bump, or a rise, while accelerating.   I think you would be fine, as the torque curve on the 929 is not as vicious as the R-1, and is fairly seamless in delivery.  I do think that pegging the throttle, or dumping the clutch is going to cause the 929, GSXR 750, or even most of the modern 600s to power wheelie.  You may need to just be a bit smoother and more progressive on the throttle.  But the 929 will be far less wheelie prone than your VTR from my experience on both. Larry 00 929 Thanks, this is what I was hoping/expected to hear.  Currently I short shift when the front comes up too soon, -end up low in second but the VTR can handle being dumped too low in the band.  If the 929 will take 3/4 throttle reasonably wheelie free through the revs in first (stock geared), sounds like second gear placement will be ok.  I'll definately have a look at the 929 when I hit the market. dont hold it full-open. It's probably a combo of things (weight bias, torque, tiny tank!), but my VTR doesn't get near full open before it rolls up, sometimes steep. When I subsequently short shift, it's way down there in second.  The speed at which a liter 4 hits peak torque (taller gearing, higher RPM), should help keep the nose down.  Larry's reply appears to support this. I had a bike that, like your 600, would skim the tarmac 1 foot up. You really feel like your getting the most out of the bike... -which I sometimes don't when short shifting a wheelie.
