In the era of rampant grade inflation, she needs to realize that he r 2.7 GPA really isn't going to have potential employers jumping up and down, Maybe this is really the problem?  Colleges should do a better job of weeding people out and not inflating their grades.  Not everybody i s made to be a college graduate, and the sooner they find out, the better.  Then, they can get on with their working life and not wast e $18,000/year.  So perhaps the college should be sued. So tell me...if a student is by and large eligible, what criteria should they use for denying them admission? just raise their admissions standards.....there are no reasons why colleges like the college I graduated from or the college you work at needs to have so many students seeking college degrees........ So what you are saying is that we should divert a bunch of $$$ from four year schools to tech schools. Actually, I don't know about divert - but we should massively increase funding for vocational/technical programs.

So what you propose doing is telling a bunch of kids that they will not have access to an education beyond high school.  Even though that there aren't that many successful career paths out there for students with only HS diplomas. Not very cool. I don't think it's very cool to herd kids into college and have them find out after 4 years of education they won't have a successful career path, either. When did college stop being about education and start being about vocational training? It's what you DO with that education that matters... which is why the sheepskin itself is pretty much irrelevant for many, many careers.

My guess is that it is the fault of the kids more than the college though.  College's can't just guaranty that someone will be employable. Jon

So what you propose doing is telling a bunch of kids that they will not have access to an education beyond high school.  Even though that there aren't that many successful career paths out there for students with only HS diplomas. but thats part of the problem.....if there werent 5000 two bit colleges admitting everyone who can read(a little bit btw) into college, there wouldn't be entry level qualification standards for jobs that dont need it.  I mean hell, one of the local geicos, _base_d on an ad I saw in the paper, is now requiring those people who answer the phones to take claims(not even the claims adjuster), whatever they are called, to have a bachelors degree....I mean jesus christ, it doesnt take a bachelors degree to answer the damn phone and process an initial claim........but since now anyone who can sorta read is made to go to a 4 year college, thats the new standard I guess.....t doesnt apply to me so I dont really give a damn, but it's a horrendous use of resources and time....
