GREINKE SETS ROYALS RECORD WITH 15 K'S
Zack Greinke had 15 strikeouts against the Indians breaking Mark Gubicza's franchise record of 14 strikeouts set in 1988. (AP)
Zack Greinke recorded 15 strikeouts during the Royals' 6-2 win over the Indians at Kauffman Stadium, eclipsing the Royals' all-time record for strikeouts in a game.
Royals Hall of Fame member Mark Gubicza, who held the record for almost 21 years, struck out 14 against Minnesota on Aug. 27, 1988. Greinke allowed two earned runs over his eight innings of work and lowered his American League-leading ERA to 2.43. And counting reliever Robinson Tejeda's one strikeout in the ninth, the Indians set a season high by striking out 16 times.
