hairstylist school Compliment
Last May, I broke down and bought a Robocut . It's a vacuum-assisted haircutting device. It looks like a hair dryer with a vacuum hose attached. I had gotten so tired of searching out a good barber or stylist only to have them disappear after just a couple of satisfactory cuts. And for this I'm laying out considerable money. So, I tried out the machine. It was either Flowbee or Robocut, and Robocut won because it cost less than Flowbee. Plus, the Robocut is made in Fort Collins, Colorado. I actually got a decent cut out of it the first time I tried it. I had to shave the back of my neck myself, though. It's a little unwieldy to use, but I think once you get some practice with it, you could actually do some creative stuff with your own hair. Anyway, it comes with a good warranty. For the first two or three months, according to the website, you can drive a truck over it and they'll replace it for free. Mainly, there is a two-year unconditional warranty. Mine fell off the bathroom counter and the ON/OFF switch broke. I couldn't find any way to fix it, so I called the company's toll-free number (on the warranty card in the User's Manual). First, a real person answered the phone. Heh. No menus. No electronic voices. That is so rare these days that it stood out like a priest at a stag party. I explained what happened. He pulled up my purchase order and asked, Are you still at the same address? I said I was. He said, We'll send you another one. We'll ship it out today. That was it. The whole transaction took less than 3 minutes. That was last Friday. I haven't received the replacement yet, but I have the guy's name and a transaction number if I don't get it in five business days. I just think it's very cool to do business with a company like this. I know it's old fashioned. But to have a live person answer the phone and deal with a problem directly and personably is just so rare, I wanted to share the experience with y'all. After my experience with these people, I really think companies that are interested in customer service should rethink their automated call centers, no kidding. The website is (what else?) <www.robocut.com for anyone who's interested.

You got a decent cut the first time because you were still working on the last stylist's cut.  Successive cuts will get worse and worse, until your hair winds up looking like a bowl was put over it. At the very least you could extend the mileage of a professional cut. If before you were paying $15 every month, and now you have a professional cut done after three robocut cuts, it will pay for itself in short order.

It probably takes as long to hook this thing up as it does for me to vacuum the hair off the bathroom floor.

True.   I  trim my hair with a razor cutter when it gets long on the sides and back.  I can get away with self triming my hair for one of two times before it gets ragged and I have to go to the hairstylist to get it evened up and neatened. My frugal practice is to go to the hairstylist school for my haircuts. The cutting are done by students who take extra care to do it right to get a good grade.  I don't have much hair left so there not much damage even a beginner student could do and I appreciate the extra attention.    I  prefer beginning students who fuss around my hair for as long as an hour and a half compared to 30 minutes from a senior student. Their work usually turns out pretty good. The $8 haircut (average) includes a shampoo.  Self trimming therefore saves $8 to $24, the school charges more if done by a senior student.
