introduction to public health Nugatory, as in Rachel Meadow's show
Meeting an agreement with Carbs, I watched both O'Reilly and Meadow's show tonight. First O'Reilly.  His talking points were the most interesting and from there, the show went downhill.  But...that's probably typical for a Monday following an Aug. weekend.  He focused on health care and the fact that the Obama offered little substantive clarity about it during his town hall meeting in Colo.  He described his solution.... Mr. President, put what you want in 5 bullet points so that even I can get it.  He went on to cite polls that prove that Americans are rejecting Obama care.  He also reported that the Health Secy. is abandoning the public option. That was the only thing Rachel Meadow and him reported on in concert. True to O'Reilly' format, he had two sets of panelists on, each representing their side of the aisle.  He was fair to both. Rachel Meadow does no such thing.  She interviews only one person at a time and it's whoever supports her often lengthy introduction about the subject. It's 100% liberal  or her words, progressive, whereas O'Reilly is careful to see that both sides get represented. The only thing that was interesting about RM's show was her obvious support of a single payer system, i.e. Medicare for all, and bitterness on how Democrats are yielding to the Republicans on this issue without anything substantive in return.  She believes the Dems should capitalize on their filibuster proof majority and ram it through.  What she pays no credence to is the fact that it's moderate America who are leery of a public option and that the Dems want to have a job in a couple of years. The rest of her stories were nugatory, i.e. of little consequence.  Segments were wasted on a right wing idiot with a gun near a town hall , the assault of a mayor, and an article about some obscure Christian magazine had about the family.  It was so obscure that even this Christian has never heard of the magazine.  Yet...all have now been rewarded with publicity. Finally....in her opening remarks, she was blatantly dishonest about some stock performers in today's market.  She cited that 4 of several winners were in the health care business, two of which are insurance companies (Aetna and United Health Care).  She then went on to blast the insurance industry for having a big day at Wall Street.  Since when does two insurance companies represent the 1300 in the marketplace?  UHC's stock went up a whopping .48c. to $28 and change.  It's high this year is $32...it's low is $14.  That's hardly an indication that they are profiting severely in the health care biz.  To hear her talk, you'd think she was talking about oil stocks last summer. Here's another piece of truth that she will never report.  When I quote plans, I quote 9 insurers of which two, UHC and HealthNet, are stock companies.  Guess which of the 9 are usually the lowest.  You guessed it. So how can they offer rates that are lower than the competition if their admin. costs and profits are ridiculous? In conclusion, I really wanted to like Rachel Meadow's show, but I had to force myself to watch the last 2/3 of it.  Carbs....I'm open if you have a better alternative.  Give me somebody who has the fairness to interview both sides....or does such a host not exist on MSNBC?? -Greg
