inexpensive health coverage Caught in the bureaucratic quagmire of the so called "universal health coverage" of the UK and France
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/global/main.jhtml?_xml_=/global/2008/02/19/h... I have a solution for this young lady and her problem with her bureaucratic quagmire with this so called universal health coverage in France and the UK. I believe one can still make flight connections from Nice to Atlanta via Delta airlines by way of JFK.. I took the flight several times in past years but it may be expensive now. She may find it more economical to go back to London and then fly direct to Charlotte North Carolina via US Air from Gatwick. She should then pick at random a county seat in a small town near either Atlanta or Charlotte. They all have pretty good county hospitals there with friendly caring staff in the smaller town ways of the South. She should check into a cheap motel if money is a problem. One can get something pretty OK in a Super 8 or Econolodge for about $30 something a night and there is typically a Waffle House or Huddle House avaialble for inexpensive meals nearby where motels are located. Some units come with a microwave or a microwave can be purchased at a Walmart which are everywhere now for under $30 US She might have to fib a bit when she first goes to the hospital emergency room for a pre natal exam. She might have to claim she noted some spotting or felt a pain but hey are used to that in emergency rooms. However, she would have to be examined in accordance with Federal and State laws. When it came time to deliver her baby she would also have to be covered by those same laws described below. Since this young lady and her boyfriend had been gainfully employed I would assume either one would qualify for a credit card to intially cover all of this. If for some reason they don't want to pay those credit card charges when they become due they could ignore those charges since they would all be unsecured debt. Unfortunately for those of us who pay our bills that has become the American way in this day and age but bad credit becomes eventually reversible in the USof A  and I guess that isn't all that bad. http://www.cms.hhs.gov/EMTALA/ Overview In 1986, Congress enacted the Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA) to ensure public access to emergency services regardless of ability to pay. Section 1867 of the Social Security Act imposes specific obligations on Medicare-participating hospitals that offer emergency services to provide a medical screening examination (MSE) when a request is made for examination or treatment for an emergency medical condition (EMC), including active labor, regardless of an individual's ability to pay. Hospitals are then required to provide stabilizing treatment for patients with EMCs. If a hospital is unable to stabilize a patient within its capability, or if the patient requests, an appropriate transfer should be implemented.... In addition: Besides state MEDICAID health care is available free to the poor and many comparable individual state laws which are broader in scope than the federal EMTALA, preceded EMTALA
