CALL FOR PARTICIPATION Eighth Annual Conference Applied Psychology in Education, Mental Health, and Business http://chiron.valdosta.edu/mawhatley/confer/confer.htm For the past seven years, the conference on Applied Psychology at Valdosta State University has given college faculty, practitioners, and students the opportunity to participate in academic and professional discourse in the context of applied research, teaching, and professional service. This multidisciplinary conference has included such topics as educational psychology, teaching of psychology, aging, counseling, information processing, behavior modification, technology in the classroom, special education, psychology in the military, and industrial/organizational psychology. Forums for this year’s topics include paper sessions, poster presentations, workshops, special sessions, and a keynote address. Paper and Poster Sessions: Topics for these sessions include research, teaching, and service in applied social science. Paper presentations are 15 minutes. Poster sessions are held concurrent to paper sessions and are displayed throughout the day with certain times specified for interaction with the authors. Awards will be given for best poster at the undergraduate and graduate level. Proposal summaries for paper or poster presentations should be submitted by March 27. Workshops and Special Sessions: Workshops and Special Sessions will be conducted concurrently. The workshops include (a) statistical analysis using SPSS 9.0 for Windows by Mark Whatley (24 seats), (b) preparation for the GRE by Deborah Briihl (30 seats), (c) writing in APA _style_ by John Hummel (30 seats) and (d) group work with children who witness violence by Teddi Cunningham (30 seats). Special sessions include a presentation on strategies for success in online courses by Andy Brovey, Catherine Price, Art Recesso, Lars Leader, Ellen Wiley, and Jane Zahner (50 seats). Keynote Address: This year’s keynote speaker is Marcy P. Driscoll, Professor and, currently= , Chair of the Department of Educational Research at Florida State University. She is the author or co-author of four textbooks in learning and instruction, including Psychology of Learning for Instruction, which won the 1995 Outstanding Book Award in Instructional Development from the Association of Educational Communications and Technology, and, with Robert M. Gagné, Essentials of Learning for Instruction. She has also published numerous articles in professional journals on learning, instructional theory, and educational semiotics.
