Job Number            618701 Job _title_             Human Factors Engineer Department            Colorado Computer Quality Department Division              Workstation Division Quality City                  Fort Collins State                 Colorado Job De_script_ion In coordination with other Human Factors Engineers, works w/one or more internal HP clients to assure that products meet usability guidelines & goals. Influence the creation of usability goals, coordinate w/the client to understand the customer and his/her working environment and environ- mental needs, develop mock-ups/prototypes of user interface designs, develop _style_ guides or other tools to communicate the human factors design guidelines, evaluate the effec- tiveness of the design using heuristic or experimental evaluation. Train client engineers in basic concepts of usability & human factors practices within the product development lifecycle. May require up to 25% travel, depend- ing on work assignment. Visits to offsite clients usually requires stays of several days to a week. Oral & written presentations to client mgmt staff required. To support clients, this person must have a broad under- standing of product usability concepts in the areas of electronic hardware installation & operation, software graphical user interface design, on-line help & documentation design, product ergonomics & human-computer interface, usability test data interpretation, etc. Must be able to design statistically-_base_d experiments. Minimum Qualifications MA or MS in Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Psychology (with emphasis in Human Factors), Industrial Engineering (emphasis in Human Factors), or related degrees, with em- phasis in Human Factors or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to visualize and create graphical user interfaces. Strong verbal and written communications skills. Ability to work well & influence other members of a design team. Ability to develop formal and informal evaluation techniques which meet clients information needs and schedule. Ability to apply task analysis methods to product design. Desired Qualifications PhD in Cognitive Psychology, Human Factors Engineering or Industrial Engineering. Experience in supporting product development efforts. UNIX experience. PC and Microsoft Windows experience and understanding of Microsoft _style_ guide.  Software development skills or Software Engineering understanding.
