Along the same lines as the questions regarding the psych. reasons for tats. I had heard a number of times the people who get pierced very often have a history of abuse as children, especially sexual abuse for those who have genital piercings. The thought being that those with genital piercings are piercing, mutilating, or some way doing damage to the _object_ of their abuse.  Any thoughts? Steve

Steve My parents were probably a bit too lenient when it came to letting me get away with things.  They have never in the 19 years that have been my life, laid a hand on me.  I have a PA and it is in no way related to any form of abuse, simply because there never was any.  It makes no sense to me that a person who pierces their genitals is in anyway trying to damage the _object_ of their physical or sexual abuse.  If that were the case then could it not be said that those who have their tongues pierced tend to have been verbally abused as children?  Doesn't make much sense does it?  My PA is art, just like the other piercings I have.  It is no different from having  my ears, nipples, tongue, nose or whatever pierced.  Society will eventually accept body piercing, but only when they have found something else to ostracize in it's place.   josh

Yes, it's an utter load of crap, just like everything else the psychology/psychiatry industry spews. Psychologists/psychiatrists are evil hellspawn.  Avoid them at all costs.

There is a fine line between mutilating your genitals and piercing them. Whether or not you cross it depends on why and how you got pierced. Two people might have a simple PA but i doubt very much that the guy showing it off at every opportunity did it as an act of mutilation of coarse the guy who did it to him self in secrecy using a blunt knitting needle might not exactly have been trying to adorn his body with beautiful decorations. There might very well be psychological reasons behind piercing your genitals  (penis envy etc.) but there aren't always. Something of interest, that i noted here, is that the majority of people with PA piercings tend to be gay? (I am NOT saying that all gay men have a PA,  that having one makes you gay,  that being gay means that you should get one or even that you need one to be gay..... ) Makes me wander whether or not there is any truth in the above quoted statement.

Steve Well, I'm not going to be able to help your theory.  I have genital piercings but have never received any kind of abuse.  The theory sounds reasonable, but as with almost everything, there are exceptions.  I just liked the look of the piercings for myself
